Director of Video Development

Billboard is looking for a Director of Video Development to join our growing video production team working in a fast-paced entertainment news-based environment.

The ideal candidate is someone enthusiastic about music, pop culture and creating new ideas. He/she will oversee development of a slate of on brand video series that drive views and high audience engagement with the goal of creating loyal audiences. This is a full-time position located at our Midtown Manhattan office reporting to the GM of Video.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee the video development process for Billboard.
  • Develop and nurture editorial video series, original concepts and ideas from both internal sources and acquired pitches.
  • Oversee video series creative with Producers from concept to pilot development and through post-production. Includes treatment, script, creative, casting, etc.
  • Nurture internal creative relationships with other teams (edit, social, SEO) to maximize success of video development.
  • Focus on developing on brand hit series for YouTube and Billboard.com to drive audience engagement and video views.
  • Utilize existing process and develop new processes to create a development funnel that is well organized and transparent
  • Ensure highly productive relationships and partnerships for the benefit of the organization
  • Communication to key stakeholders on a consistent basis

 

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years minimum experience leading video development, with experience in entertainment or music specifically
  • Strong sense of what makes a good idea with the ability to pair with data and strategy to grow an audience
  • Proven examples of successful past work
  • Proven knowledge of television, music, pop-culture, youth culture and emerging technology trends
  • Proven ability to identify unique ideas and translate ideas into winning/successful programming
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, train and motivate a multi-person creative team
  • Must have strong relationships with key players in the video space, including writers, producers, talent, directors.
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and diplomatic skills, including the ability to work successfully within a collaborative team environment, interact with a wide range of personalities/styles and establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Strong business and personal ethics
  • Willingness to travel
